Speech & Debate Competiton
Middle - High School Students
In High School Debate, students learn the fundamentals of argumentation and communication. They will focus on learning the ins and outs of public policy, current events, and moral values. They will debate the implications of policy action by different government and non-governmental organizations. The class will be based on the British Parliamentary structure, with the ultimate goal of competing on the high school debate competition circuit. The goal for students is to become more confident and engaging speakers. They will be able to passionately advocate for a variety of different policy outcomes. They will also consider the social, political, economic, and moral repercussions of action. This will help students with their research, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Competitively, the goal is for students to succeed in debate against other programs. All of this will help with college applications.
