Integrated Reading & Writing 3

Grade: 3 - 4

Tuesday 4:00pm - 5:30pm

Integrated Reading and Writing 3 is one of our reading and writing classes for kids and helps students strengthen reading comprehension, refine writing skills, and deepen their understanding of fiction and nonfiction through text analysis, vocabulary development, and structured composition.

Prerequisites: None

• Identify and compare key story elements (characters, setting, plot, themes) using text evidence.
• Apply strategies such as summarizing, inferring, and identifying the main idea in fiction and nonfiction texts.
• Use context clues, word structure, and reference materials to determine and apply new vocabulary.
• Plan, draft, revise, and edit clear, organized writing with a central idea and supporting details.
• Cite specific text details to support opinions, explanations, and arguments in writing and speaking.
• Synthesize information from multiple texts to develop strong interpretations and arguments.
• Use topic sentences, supporting details, and transitions to create well-structured paragraphs.
• Participate in peer review and self-assessment to improve writing through revision.
• Evaluate and interpret texts by making connections, drawing conclusions, and distinguishing fact from opinion.
• Write and present ideas clearly with proper grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.

Integrated Reading & Writing 3: Program Details

Integrated Reading and Writing 3 is a course designed to strengthen reading and writing skills, fostering a deeper understanding of texts and enhancing written expression. By the end, students will have improved their academic abilities, developed a greater appreciation for literature, and gained the confidence to communicate effectively in various contexts.

Includes a 6-novel book list: The Boxcar Children, The Girl Who Drank the Moon, Mr. Popper’s Penguins, Stuart Little, Wonder, and Frindle.
