Middle School Academic Writing: AI Research & DBQ: Program Details

Middle School Academic Writing: AI Research & DBQ is an advanced writing course for 6th–8th grade students designed to strengthen analytical, argumentative, and research-based writing skills. The course prepares students for the academic demands of honors coursework and competitive middle school and early high school programs by emphasizing clear structure, evidence-based reasoning, and strong thesis development.

A core focus of the program is teaching students how to write a DBQ essay, including analyzing source documents, synthesizing evidence, and organizing arguments under time constraints. Students practice writing across argumentative, analytical, and expository genres while refining clarity, precision, and logical reasoning.

The course also integrates AI tools responsibly within the writing process. Rather than functioning as a general AI course, students learn how to use AI ethically to support research, idea development, and revision while maintaining original thinking and academic integrity.
