MS + HS Speech & Debate Core LD & Parli: Program Details
HS Speech and Debate Core is an advanced high school speech and debate course designed to prepare students for competitive debate, strong academic performance, and college success. Through focused instruction, students develop advanced research, writing, and presentation skills while learning to construct well-organized, logically sound arguments.
The program introduces official National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) speech events and provides in-depth training in Lincoln Douglas and Parliamentary debate formats. Students learn to analyze complex issues, support claims with evidence, and communicate persuasively in both prepared and extemporaneous settings.
The Lincoln Douglas section focuses on writing and delivering affirmative and negative cases, effective cross-examination, and the use of philosophical frameworks to develop deep critical and ethical reasoning skills. The Parliamentary debate section emphasizes teamwork, rapid analysis, rebuttal strategies, and adapting to spontaneous topics through fast-paced practice. By the end of the course, students are prepared to compete at a high level while strengthening the writing, thinking, and presentation skills essential for college applications and academic success.
