MS Speech & Debate Core: Program Details
MS Speech & Debate Core is a comprehensive middle school speech and debate course designed to prepare students for competitive debate and advanced high school English Language Arts. Through focused instruction, students develop the skills to research, write, and present well-organized, logically sound arguments across multiple debate formats.
The program introduces students to official NSDA speech events and provides hands-on experience with Lincoln Douglas and Parliamentary debate. Instruction emphasizes evidence-based reasoning, clear structure, and persuasive delivery while strengthening academic writing and presentation skills.
Sample class materials teach students the four parts of an advantage: Uniqueness, Link, Internal Link, and Impact. helping them identify problems, explain how proposed solutions address them, and communicate why outcomes matter. Guided discussions and collaborative activities strengthen argumentation, strategic thinking, and teamwork while preparing students to compete confidently in speech and debate at the middle school level and beyond.
