Introduction to our Speech & Debate Department Director & Head Coach: Mr. Joe

Mr. Joe has worked with iLearn for 4 years now and has been our most popular Speech & Debate Instructor amongst students who have taken his trial, private, and online group classes. He was also the Speech & Debate Director and Head Coach for other well-known institutions and has many students who have won competitions under his guidance.

His Speech & Debate students have been accepted into multiple Ivy League & top universities, such as Harvard, Yale, and Stanford, through his Speech & Debate academic planning and instruction. Mr. Joe is able to yield such a high success rate for his students due to his extensive knowledge in the Speech & Debate Merit System.

What is the NSDA Merit System and how come Universities prioritize this award?

The NSDA Merit System is the National Speech & Debate Association’s program that involves earning points through winning Speech & Debate Competitions. When students win a debate, they earn 6 points while if they lose, they will earn only 3. When students earn at least 750 points and maintain at least a 3.7 GPA or an SAT score higher than 1300, they receive the ACADEMIC ALL AMERICANS award, given only to the top 1% of students in the nation.

This award is highly respected and sought after by all universities and is a significant benefactor when it comes to College Applications. Mr. Joe has had students who have earned this award every year and just last year, he had 7 students who all earned the Academic All Americans Merit Award.
