High School Lincoln Douglas Debate Competition is a high school debate competition program that prepares students for competitive debate through advanced research, argumentation, and public speaking, helping them succeed in Lincoln Douglas tournaments and college-level academics.
Prerequisites: Prior debate experience and an interview assessment are required.

HS Lincoln Douglas Debate Competition: Program Details
High School Lincoln Douglas Debate Competition is an advanced high school debate competition course designed for students seeking excellence in competitive debate and college preparation. The program equips students with the analytical, rhetorical, and research skills required to succeed in Lincoln Douglas debate at local, regional, and national tournaments.
Students engage deeply with complex political, ethical, and social issues while learning to craft, defend, and refute nuanced arguments. Instruction emphasizes advanced research methods, efficient note-taking, strategic case construction, and mastery of Lincoln–Douglas debate rules, structure, and expectations. Students develop fluency and confidence in presenting arguments, responding under pressure, and engaging skilled opponents.
Through guided practice and tournament participation across Southern California and beyond, students gain real competitive experience while building leadership, intellectual rigor, and eloquence. By the end of the course, students are fully prepared to compete at a high level, develop a strong debate résumé that supports college and scholarship opportunities, earn recognition through awards and competitive performance, and carry advanced critical thinking and public speaking skills into academics and future pursuits.
