MS Debate Competition: LD

The Middle School Lincoln Douglas Debate Competition is a middle school Lincoln Douglas debate program that helps students build advanced argumentation, research, and public speaking skills through competitive debate and expert coaching for tournament success.

Prerequisites: Prior debate experience and an interview assessment are required.

MS Debate Competition: LD: Program Details

The Middle School Lincoln Douglas Debate Competition is an advanced middle school Lincoln Douglas debate program designed to prepare students for competitive success in LD tournaments across Southern California and online. Through structured instruction and focused debate coaching, students develop strong foundations in argumentation, research, and persuasive public speaking.

Students learn to analyze complex political and social issues, construct affirmative and negative cases, and engage in rigorous debate with confidence. Instruction emphasizes efficient research methods, strategic note-taking, mastery of LD debate structure and rules, and effective rebuttal techniques. Guided practice helps students develop clarity, authority, and precision in presenting arguments under competitive conditions.

The course offers opportunities to compete in live and online tournaments, earn awards, gain NSDA points, and build a strong competitive debate résumé. By the end of the program, students demonstrate advanced critical thinking, confident delivery, and the academic leadership skills essential for success in competitive debate and beyond.
