ES Debate Competition: SPAR: Program Details
ES Debate Competition: SPAR is a competitive SPAR debate program for kids designed to prepare students for Spontaneous Argumentation (SPAR) debate events. This fast-paced format challenges students to think critically and communicate clearly by delivering a two-minute speech with only two minutes of preparation.
Students learn to craft persuasive arguments, engage respectfully with opposing viewpoints, and compete confidently in local debate events. Instruction emphasizes strategic topic selection, quick organization of ideas, and effective delivery under time pressure. Through coaching and guided practice, students also strengthen critical listening, adaptability, and confidence in competitive speaking environments.
Sample class materials help students practice defensive and offensive argumentation on controversial statements while refining clarity and persuasion. Activities focus on building flexibility, logical reasoning, and strong communication skills essential for success in SPAR debate competitions.
