A Connected Approach to Reading and Writing
Our Integrated Reading and Writing classes connects literacy skills into a single, cohesive learning experience. Rather than treating reading and writing as isolated subjects, students learn how strong reading directly informs strong writing and how writing reinforces comprehension. Through guided instruction, discussion, and structured practice, students actively engage with texts and learn to express their understanding clearly and confidently.
As students progress, they move beyond basic comprehension into deeper analysis. They learn to identify themes, evaluate characters, interpret author’s craft, and support ideas with textual evidence. Writing instruction mirrors this growth, guiding students from sentence construction to organized paragraphs and, eventually, full academic responses across narrative, informational, and analytical genres.
This integrated approach builds durable academic skills that transfer across subjects and grade levels. Students gain confidence as readers, precision as writers, and independence as thinkers preparing them not only for success in English classrooms, but for the increasing demands of middle school, high school, and beyond.
